John C. Campbell Folk School
Teaching at the Folk School for the second time was a turning point for Ruthie. The warm, no stress about grades, and intensive learning that goes on in this school gave Ruthie an example to emulate on a much smaller scale. John C. Campbell Folk School provides experiences in non-competitive learning and community life that are joyful and enlivening. Located in scenic Brasstown, North Carolina, the Folk School offers year-round weeklong and weekend classes for adults in craft, art, music, dance, cooking, gardening, nature studies, photography and writing.
Wildacres
One of the important benefits of belonging to an Eastern Federation club is the opportunity to attend the two federation-sponsored Workshops at Wildacres. Imagine being able to spend a week totally immersed in the joys of our hobby - no interruptions from television, news, traffic, or worries. The setting is an idyllic mountain top retreat where you are well fed and cared for and you can take classes in many aspects of the hobby - lapidary, jewelry making, mineralogy, etc. There is such a place and it's called Wildacres.
Folk Art Center- Headquarters of the Southern Highland Craft Guild
During the year, Ruthie can be found in the main lobby demonstrating various jewelry techniques. Come on down and see first hand how jewelry is made; from soldering, forging, creating bezels, and setting stones. Feel free to ask questions about the techniques being demonstrated.
